IMMACULATE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, VIRIYUR
The Initial History
The traditional, oldest parish of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore, Viriyur, is known for its faith and its varied contribution to the Church. In 1993, on the commemoration of centenary celebration of Adaikala Annai Church, Very Rev. Mother S. Regina Mary, the superior General in the presence of His Eminence Cardinal Simon D. Lourdusamy, promised that if she was given land, she would definitely start a college at viriyur as the Parish Priest, the native priests of Viriyur, along with the parishners pleaded for the college.
The Nature of Land
In 1994 -95, 34 acres of land was purchased. Until 2002, the congregation did not do anything to begin the college due to the administrative changes in the Congregation. The Superior General promised for laying foundation stone, on the very same day of the inauguration of the Engineering college at Nainarpalayam, as the people of Viriyur were constantly fighting and requesting to start the college for women since it was promised.
The Inauguration of the College
On 15th July 2003, the College was inaugurated in the presence of Very Rev. Mother. S. Regina Mary, the Superior General. Rev. Fr. V. Agnel, the principal and the parish council decided to give Adaikala Annai Hr. Sec. School for college classes and Adaikala Annai Marriage hall for hostel until the college building was completed.Rev. Sr.Isias Mary Nirmala took charge as the first principal of the Immaculate College for women.
The Blessing of College, Convent and Hostel Buildings
On 20th August 2004, the newly build College was blessed and inaugurated. The College, the hostel and convent had been shifted to the college. On 6th May 2007, the newly build Convent and Hostel were blessed and inaugurated by Most Rev. Antony Anandarayar, the Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore.
Further Developments of buildings
In 2010-2011, with the financial resources of the college, the foundation was laid to construct 12 classrooms with canteen room using 100% heat protecting aluminium sheets as roof. And it is also elevated, modified with falls ceiling and beautified with trees and flower plants in front of the class rooms. On 16th Dec 2014, Rev.Sr. Ephiphany Mary, the provincial laid the foundation to construct 10 class rooms as the enrolment of the college was increasing.
In 2016, by the road from Viriyur to Ramarajapuram, the compound wall about 1000mts was constructed. For the benefits of the hostel students the newly build Multipurpose Hall was inaugurated on 05-03-2016 by Very Rev.Mother. Fathima Paula, the Superior General.
The Transports
For the benefit of the students vehicles were gradually purchased since 2007 to 2018, which increased the strength of the college and empowered the rural girls. The college has been known to 300 villages with its quality and service.
The Campus with Green Revolution
For the revolution of converting unused lands with bushes, rocks, poisonous creatures in to fertile soil with green and clean campus, play ground, 12 bore wells were trilled which changed the face of the campus since 2010-2017.

Vision of the College
True to its name ‘Immaculate ‘which means ‘purity’, Immaculate College for Women, Viriyur is an institution with a social concern and virtue, which will address the problem of humanity through teaching and guiding the students.
The Students and faculty of Immaculate College for Women, Viriyur will be imbibed with spiritual discernment and zeal to serve humanity and to eventually become leaders of the society.
